August 2005
Hello and I hope that everyone is enjoying a great summer!
I have just returned from 3 courses - firstly working with the hugely talented National Youth Brass Band of Wales who are great friends of mine. I am sure that all their concerts went well - try and catch them if you can!
I enjoyed a masterclass day with the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain - again I met some very talented and commited young players here and we had a great day together.
Finally I enjoyed a week in the company of the staff and delegates of the Brass Band Summer School in Bromsgrove - always a great week with plenty of hard work and fun under the directorship of the one and only Richard Evans.
This year I not only worked with the percussion team but also conducted the all - girl brass band 'The Thunderbirds' in the march contests which were great fun. Altogether a thoroughly enjoyable week - although I did manage to lose every single tennis match that I played (and I played every day!!)
BackBeat finished the season with a concert in the beautiful village of Petworth during their exciting festival. We are looking forward to our new season in September as it is our 10th anniversary in October - keep an eye on the BackBeat website for all the news.
My first concert of the season is a return visit to Doncaster to join Hadyn Griffiths and the Armthorpe Colliery Band on the 3rd September which should be a great night.
I hope to see you at one of my forthcoming concerts.
Happy Hitting!
Simone
