21st April 2004
Welcome to this month's newsletter and a belated Happy Easter to all!!
Thank you to all who have attended recent concerts/workshops over the last month particularly the children who joined me at The MailBox (BBC) in Birmingham for BBC WM's Live Music Day on Bank Holiday Monday. We had a great time working together on some Brazilian Samba music and the weather just about held out for our performance!
Also a big hello to City of Birmingham Young Voices (CBYV) who BackBeat played with in a special concert to premiere Bob Chilcott's latest work - Circlesong. CBYV are conducted by David Lawrence who I will be working with again at the end of the year in the Young Voices Arena Tour - details to follow!
I am still in the middle of moving house - due to a number of complications I found myself homeless for a month! Luckily I was taken in by some kindly folk - my mum and dad!! With a bit of luck I will be in the new house in a couple of days and I can get ready for the new season.
Over the next month I will be visiting the Isle of Man for a short schools tour with Chris (from BackBeat) and we will be holding music staff inset days on Thursday 6th May at the Music Centre, Douglas IOM and on Thursday 13th May at the Manygates Centre in Wakefield.
On Saturday 15th May BackBeat is performing alongside the fabulous Fodens Richardson Brass Band at Leeds Town Hall (7.30pm). The concert will feature a performance of Damien Harron's 'Filling Airtime' for percussion quartet and brass band as well as solo features from the quartet and band.
PS. For those who subscribe to Brass Herald look out for my new column which appears in the latest edition.
