News, snippets and gig updates from Simone!

21st March 2004
Welcome to the first of my newsletters to keep you up to date with what is going on!

A very belated Happy 2004 to everyone! My year has started with a flurry of activity with highlights being the concert at the RNCM with saxophonist Rob Buckland (Equivox) and a trip to the Cayman Islands with BackBeat Percussion Quartet which was great fun!

I am looking forward in the next few weeks to a couple of very interesting concerts - on Saturday 27th March I will be the guest soloist with Birmingham Symphonic Winds at the Royal Northern College of Music in a concert that is part of the BASBWE Festival. The concerto that I am playing is Michael Daughty's UFO which is a great piece to play and uses lots of rather unusual instruments and sounds. The concert is at 7.30pm.

On Saturday 3rd April I will be appearing with BackBeat Percussion Quartet and the City of Birmingham Youth Choir in a concert at the Adrian Boult Hall Birmingham (7.30pm). This concert will feature the World Premiere of Bob Chilcott's CircleSong for choir, piano and percussion quartet. It is great for me to be working with Bob again after our concert together with the BBC Singers in October. This performance will be conducted by David Lawrence who I work with at Young Voices so I am doubly looking forward to it!

If you are in the West Midlands area I will be giving a workshop and radio interview (for BBC WM) on Bank holiday Monday (12th April) from the MailBox in Birmingham as part of the BBC WM Music Festival.

The rest of my time in the next few weeks is going to be spent moving house so I hope that by the time of my next newsletter I will be completely moved in and settled - fingers crossed!!
